How we compare in detail

We believe in transparency. Here's where each platform shines — and where it falls short for South African SMEs.

InnoVisions

Best for: Growing SA SMEs that need everything in one platform
  • Strengths: Deeply integrated modules, payroll and SARS returns built in, a Books Health check that proves the ledger against its documents, and local support.
  • Limitations: Newer platform with a smaller ecosystem. Limited third-party integrations compared to established players. Ecosystem is growing but not yet as large as established alternatives.
  • Best fit: Established businesses with 5–200 employees across distribution, manufacturing, construction, and services.

Omni Accounts

Best for: Distributors, retailers and manufacturers on a desktop ERP
  • Strengths: Long-established South African ERP. Full ledgers with sales, purchasing, stock control, job costing, manufacturing (bills of materials), point of sale and CRM. Multi-currency customer, supplier and bank accounts; unlimited companies on the top bundle; REST API; on-premise or cloud hosting; local support.
  • Limitations: No payroll package (Omni states this itself), so PAYE, UIF, SDL, EMP201 and IRP5 need a separate product. A support desk and quality control are not listed. Modules are sold in bundles.
  • Best fit: Trading and manufacturing businesses that want a mature desktop-style ERP and run payroll elsewhere.

Sage (Sage 300 / Sage Accounting)

Best for: Established enterprises with Sage ecosystem investment
  • Strengths: Long-standing reputation, strong accounting core, desktop option, extensive local partner network in SA.
  • Limitations: Module fragmentation (CRM, HR, stock are separate products), dated UI in some products, costly upgrades.
  • Best fit: Larger enterprises already using Sage who value ecosystem continuity.

Xero

Best for: Very small businesses and sole proprietors focused on accounting
  • Strengths: Clean UI, strong bank reconciliation, good mobile app, large app marketplace.
  • Limitations: Accounting-only at core. No job costing, no multi-warehouse stock, no CRM, no support desk. Wider needs require add-ons. No SA local support.
  • Best fit: Solo entrepreneurs and micro-businesses (1–5 people) who only need accounting and are willing to stitch together add-ons.

Odoo

Best for: Businesses willing to invest in customisation
  • Strengths: Huge app ecosystem, open-source Community edition, large global community, highly customisable.
  • Limitations: SA compliance requires third-party modules (additional cost). Customisation requires technical expertise. Quality varies significantly between apps. Community edition lacks many features.
  • Best fit: Businesses with technical staff who can customise and maintain the platform, and who need specific niche functionality.

QuickBooks

Best for: Micro-businesses with basic accounting needs
  • Strengths: Widely known, simple UI, good invoicing basics.
  • Limitations: US/UK-centric tax rules — limited SA SARS compliance. No job costing, no multi-warehouse, no CRM, no support desk. Very limited for product-based businesses. Inventory features are basic.
  • Best fit: Very small service businesses (1–3 people) with simple accounting needs and no inventory or job tracking requirements.

The bottom line

Here's what makes InnoVisions different — and why it might be the right choice for your business.

One platform, not a stack

Accounting, payroll, stock, jobs, CRM and support in one system with one ledger. Everything works together because it was built together — not bolted on later.

Books you can prove

Every document posts a balanced journal through one set of rules, and a built-in Books Health check proves the ledger agrees with the invoices, bills, receipts and asset register behind it.

Built for SA, not adapted

SARS tax tables, ZAR currency, SA address formats — built into every module. Not an afterthought, not a third-party add-on. QuickBooks and Xero require workarounds for SA compliance. We don't.

Local support, local team

Email us and get a response from a person in South Africa, not a chatbot or an offshore call centre. QuickBooks and Xero have no local support. Sage has local partners but not direct support.
